Barrier Grey is an under-base product designed to block unstable garment dyes from migrating into a Chill top white or Chill top colors on the very worst dyed fabrics or poly garments.

Rutland™ Chill™ flexible-curing inks are ready for use screen printing inks that cure as low as 270°F or up to 320°F. This series consists of 17 bright, easy to print, ready-for-use colors*; an under-base bleed blocking barrier ink, a mixing base and 3 white inks that can be printed alone or as an under-base; and an extender base designed for white or light-colored fabrics.

This premium flexible cure system produces a contemporary soft hand with a matte finish. Rutland Chill inks are a terrific fit for manual and automatic presses in shops of varying sizes. This extensive system delivers vibrant, rich colors direct to cotton and onto most cotton blends, benefiting from a lower cure to minimize the risk of dye migration appearing in your print. For more unstable polyester blends, sublimated and 100% polyester garments, printers can use the grey dye-blocking barrier. This bleed blocker is recommended for when problem fabrics prove to be too challenging for the Rutland Chill LC LB Tidy White or the Rutland Chill Poly White.

Features:

  • Excellent stretch and soft-hand feel
  • Vibrant and opaque colors
  • Non-migrating pigments produce crisp edge-definition designs
  • Wide temperature curing profile, from 270°F/132°C to 320°F/160°C
  • Reduces energy consumption and lowers shop temperatures
  • Great printability and wet-on-wet capabilities on manual or automatic presses

Printing Tips:

  • Adjust flash cure temperature and dwell time so the ink is just dry to the touch. Avoid excessive flash temperatures to protect fabric and the migration of dyes.
  • Use 86–110t/in mesh screens for best performance and opacity.
  • For printing under a white or color over-print it is typical to print two strokes of Chill Barrier Grey, flash until dry to the touch, and then print white or colors over the barrier under base, flashing as needed.
  • Adjust your print parameters to allow this ink to clear fully on the second stroke using medium to low pressure for best dye blocking and opacity. As this ink shears down, less pressure will be required. Adjust accordingly.
  • Curing is a time and temperature process. Using a lower temperature, at a lower belt speed will provide the best result without damaging the fabric.
  • A behavior for high-opacity low cure inks is to "body-up" or gain viscosity when at rest. Be sure to "Pre-shear" or agitate this ink before use to achieve optimal flow before printing. Be careful to not use high speed drills or similar equipment that will create friction-heat that can cause the ink to begin to cure. Store ink buckets up off of cold floors to reduce pre-shear time.
