Characteristics

The Diamond Kutronic 96" Automatic Squeegee Sharpener is a professional precision sharpening system designed for restoring extra-long screen printing squeegee blades to a clean, consistent printing edge. With a maximum sharpening length of 96" (244 cm), the Kutronic is particularly well suited for wide-format graphics, industrial screen printing, and other applications using long squeegee assemblies.

Unlike conventional belt-sanding methods, the Kutronic uses precision diamond grinding wheels to remove controlled amounts of polyurethane from the printing edge. This diamond-wheel sharpening process helps maintain consistent blade geometry while producing a clean, repeatable edge across the entire length of the squeegee.

The fully automated sharpening process controls critical variables including sharpening speed, grinding pressure, and material removal. Controlling these variables helps minimize operator variability and provides consistent results from one sharpening cycle to the next.

The Kutronic's heavy-duty design securely holds the squeegee by the blade during sharpening. This is especially important when working with long squeegees, where bending, bowing, or inconsistencies between the blade and holder can contribute to uneven printing pressure.

For additional control with extra-long squeegees, the Kutronic incorporates adjustable camber capability. Edge straightness can be adjusted from approximately -0.050" to +0.050" camber over the full sharpening length, allowing operators to compensate for blade curvature and optimize the squeegee profile for demanding printing applications.

The 96" Kutronic is factory set with approximately +0.030" camber for optimum performance. This positive camber can help compensate for the tendency of long squeegees to bow or develop reduced pressure toward the center of the blade.

Two straight/square-edge diamond grinding wheels are supplied as standard. The included 100-grit wheel provides efficient material removal, while the finer 360-grit wheel provides a more refined finishing edge. Optional 60- and 600-grit wheels are also available for specialized sharpening requirements.

Recommended material removal is approximately 0.002" to 0.005" (0.05 to 0.10 mm), depending on the diamond-wheel grit being used. Controlled removal helps restore the printing edge without unnecessarily removing excessive polyurethane, helping maximize usable squeegee life.

The Kutronic can sharpen a wide range of compatible squeegee materials and constructions, including both single- and multiple-durometer blades. This versatility makes it suitable for screen-printing operations maintaining a variety of production squeegees.
